Power-based rowing training plans

It would be nice to get workouts on my garmin for rowing workouts.

I previously found that adapting a cycling workout to rowing by changing the sport and sub_sport IDs in the fit field worked. However, it’s a real hassle to continue doing that (notably because of a bug on my PC where after mounting a MTP device I needed a reboot before it would mount again).

I also found after doing some independent rowing workouts it appeared to influence my cycling FTP, I guess because it reports power and the filtering used by ‘running power’ was not being applied to cycling power.

Athletica.ai has rowing plans, but like all their plans they’re just adapting template plans from a textbook / expert coach, sort of like how TrainerRoad used to work before the big ML push.

Have you tried specifying in the Plan System Prompt that you would like some rowing workouts? The only thing is they would be text based so not structured power/pace instructions like our swimming, running and cycling workouts

Yes, and they show up as the ‘strength’ profile. It has the limitations you mentioned.

I was able to ‘do’ the workout suggested by using the Row Indoors → Training → Intervals feature of my Garmin watch to get in-workout prompts.

My garmin doesn’t control the PM5 monitor over ANT+FE-C.

I have not investigated how to control the PM5 monitor using the ErgData app, the monitor I have available doesn’t have the phone mount so it’s just inconvenient. Therefore I do not know if the monitor is controlled by the app, interval prompts, etc. instead of just reporting what I’m doing to the app.

Perhaps more relevantly, it would be nice to have rowing be integrated automatically into the plan as calculated my the ML, rather than something Gemini cooks up.

Agreed. This is an area for rowing where I feel things are really lacking. EXR, for example, has some built-in plans and workouts but personally I don’t like having to choose and fit something into my other training plan. Having text based also isn’t great since it makes it harder to follow. My ideal scenario would be rowing being a first class sport in AI Endurance, and some kind of relationship between it and EXR to make the integration seamless.
